Grilled Mackerel with Garlic and Paprika
May 28, 2011

This is as basic as it gets - good fish, a simple ground paste to marinate the fish with, a hot grill, and a weekday dinner is done with minimum fuss.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs Spanish mackerel or other oily fish, filleted, with skin on
  • 1 tsp hot paprika
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 cloves of garlic, peeled
  • 1 tsp coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • Oil to baste fish

Preparation

  1. Using a mortar and pestle, make a paste out of the garlic, paprika, turmeric, sea salt and vinegar.
  2. Apply the paste to the skinless side of the fish, and let it marinate for about 30 minutes or so.
  3. Heat the grill to medium high. After the fish is done marinating, brush both sides lightly with oil, and grill, skin side first, about 5 minutes each side.
  4. Serve hot with rice.
